Link Baiting

In this article we will look at the latest SEO craze of Link Baiting, and ways in which is it done. Link baiting is exactly what it seems; offering “bait” in order to establish a link to your site. Stereotypically link building is done through link exchanges or reciprocal links, however link baiting doesn’t have to be two-way. Link baiting is all about actively encouraging your audience to link to specific content on your website, therefore increasing your exposure. If you provide something that an audience likes, it will in effect self promote through word of mouth across the net.

The main way in which link baiting is done, is to establish a product or something of interest in order to entice people to willingly link to your website. An example of this would be providing a free resource for people to download. As interest in the resources grows, the more people will be looking at it, the more exposure it gets. One person for example may really like it and therefore write a post on their blog about your resource; naturally providing a link to it. This is a classic example of link baiting; giving people a reason to link to you, without a link exchange or paid link – in this case the reason is a resource.

Other key ways in which link baiting can be done include; writing an article, doing something unique or breaking a niche. Controversial bait will almost certainly be the most successful; people will want to read on and discover what the fuss is all about; drawing natural links from the audience. The more unique your bait is, or the tighter the niche it enters, again the more successful you will be in attracting natural links to your website or page.

In conclusion link baiting is all about drawing natural and free links from your target audience. You provide something of interest, something that people will want to share with others; in turn building back links to your website and increasing your traffic.
